Petya

Personality:

Petya is usually reserved and cold, feeling that most malware isn't worth interacting with due to his high status, but has a soft spot for a select few. Good at controlling his emotions, though if you do manage to piss him off you are basically dead. Silently loves the respect and fear he has gained, though he tries to not boast about it.
Has an awfully strong chainsmoking habit. Enjoys thunderstorms, snow and the nyashka aesthetic, though too embarassed to fully indulge in the last.

History:

First discovered in March 2016, his first variant achieved fewer infections than other ransomware active in early 2016, though he was far from giving up, as his differences caused him to be "immediately flagged as the next step in ransomware evolution".
The second variant was discovered in May 2016, using a second payload, Mischa, which didn't need administrative privileges if Petya failed to install. In late 2016 there was also the GoldenEye variant, which was similar to the previous, though customized.
Then the most well known cyberattack, with the variant NotPetya, began on June 27th 2017, with major differences to previous variants, using EternalBlue and no longer decrypting files, he became a rapidly spreading disastrous wiper, causing the most destructive cyberattack in history, worth over $10 billion dollars in damage.
After this he has been retired, having already achieved one of the biggest feats a malware could, or that's what was thought before HybridPetya was discovered in February 2025, which was able to compromise modern UEFI-based systems. This shows that even after years, he might just get bored enough to strike again.

Relations:

WannaCry - Being Petya's boyfriend, Cry is the closest person to him, treated the softest by him.
They first met during the WannaCry cyberattack, and Petya not being a big name among malware yet, was impressed and secretly smitten by Cry. This was an important part of his motivation for the NotPetya attack, as he wanted Cry to notice him and see just what he can do. Soon after Cry asked Petya out and they have been together ever since.

Bad Rabbit - Petya's younger sibling, while they've never gotten as big as him, they look up to him and learned a lot from it.

Mydoom - Petya holds deep respect towards Doom, admiring his record breaking spreading and damage. While Doom was rather fond of Petya ever since they met, he more than reprocipicated the respect after the NotPetya attack. They also find connection in their shared russian roots and composed demeanors.

CryptoLocker - Petya and Crypto met eachother mostly just due to them both being mid 2010s ransomware. Though their friendship isn't deep, they certainly have a level of understanding, and early on Petya for his first variant did learn from their variant, CryptoWall.
